Will Horowitz

A life shaped by kitchens, wild places, and traditional knowledge.

Chef and author Will Horowitz was raised between two food traditions: a Jewish delicatessen run by one side of his family in Harlem, and the small fishing village of Orient, Long Island, where his grandfather was a traditional bayman and his French-trained grandmother cooked from the bounty of the surrounding water.

He began studying wilderness survival at fifteen, beginning a lifelong pursuit of primitive skills, foraging, hunting, fishing, and the practical knowledge carried by working landscapes. He spent half his life in Colorado, lived in a treehouse in Burma, and has spent significant periods in the wilderness of New England, the Rockies, and the Yukon.

Today he lives on a small farm near the water outside Greenport, Long Island, working to live more closely with the land and sea while documenting food traditions from around the world. Cook Curated brings together the tools, books, provisions, clothing, and equipment that have proved most useful along the way.
